Why Support
Friend to Friend
How Your Dollars Help…
In November 2019,
during a regular follow-up with her oncologist, Maria learned that she had stage 4 breast cancer with metastasis to her bones and hip. As a result, she needed a hip replacement surgery before starting chemotherapy.
Maria suffered from low self-esteem due to hair loss from previous chemo treatments. She also struggled with her appearance because the old prosthesis no longer fit well. As Maria’s Shanti care navigator, I connected her with Friend to Friend. They helped her select the perfect wig and prosthesis. When Maria saw herself in the mirror, she was so happy because she looked and felt like herself again. She left the Friend to Friend shop with her new hair, new look, a big smile, and gratitude for the support and kindness she had received.

Be a Friend to the
Friend to Friend Fund
A cancer diagnosis is difficult enough. Add to that the economic challenges, and it’s even more overwhelming. That’s why Friend to Friend is dedicated to helping underserved women and girls access wigs and other cancer-related items – all new — at no cost to them.
Since our inception, we have provided more than $700,000 in charitable care to over 2800 women and teenagers. The addition of the Mission Bay store enables us to broaden our impact and make our services accessible to more patients.
With your support we can continue to make a difference in the lives of underserved cancer patients in the Bay Area and beyond. Please make your tax-deductible donation here.
There are so many women in need these days and it seems criminal to me that they can’t have a breast form or a bra or a wig. That they feel not whole…and when they come to us we do our best to make them whole.
Donate Your Lightly Used Wigs or Prosthetics
No longer need your wig or prosthetic? Why not donate it to someone who does! Bay Area Cancer Connections of San Mateo accepts wigs, prosthetics and mastectomy bras that are clean and in good condition. Then they pass them along at no charge to women who can’t afford to purchase a new one.
